Next opponent, the Southeast Valley Cougars
The Rams softball team stretched their season record to 21-6 with a three-inning, 12-0 win Thursday over the Cherokee Washington Braves in the first round of Class 3A Region 3 post-season play.
The host Rams scored four runs in each of the first three innings before the game ended via the 10-run rule. The Rams had 12 hits for the game – nine singles (two each for Oliva Shannon, Emma Stream and Paige Teeples, and one each for Alexa Peters, Becca Anderson, and Payton Kokenge); two doubles (Anderson and Peters); and a three-run homer by pitcher Emma Hoyle. One Ram walked, and one reached base on an error.
Base running was key, as the Rams totaled 10 stolen bases. Shannon stole three times; Anderson, Kokenge and Kaycee Pittman stole twice; and Peters stole once.
Hoyle threw 50 pitches, striking out seven batters, hitting one batter, and allowing one hit.
The Rams will host the Cougars of Southeast Valley Saturday at 7 pm at the city softball field on E. Lincoln Way. The Cougars topped OABCIG 14-4 in the first round of play. The Rams and Cougars played June 27 with the Rams winning 9-0.
Tickets for the game must be purchased via the Bound app. Greene County season passes are not valid for post-season play.
